Longing for Night

by earlgreytea   Mar 24, 2014

Her eyes are sewn open,
so she cannot help but see;
The patterns in the sidewalk cracks
the random in your tea.
Her ears they always listen,
Always longing not to hear,
The howling of the hollow wind,
A birdsong laced with fear.
Her breath it never falters,
But in turning to the mist,
Yet she sits in pensive silence
With her heart held in a fist,
And she longs to close her eyes,
Against the contrast ever-bright,
But she cannot find a way
And so she longs instead for night.

I love the dark feel to this poem, it's like a proper fairy tale.

It makes me feel as if the central character has been granted a wish but it has turned out not to be the wonderful thing she thought she wanted and longs to escape it but can not and has to live with the consequences.

    Superb writing. :)
