Costumes Are Slipping

by Jenni Marie   Sep 10, 2014

You have the sweetest eyes
-only I never knew how decietful
they really were. And now, when
I look into those eyes I no longer feel
secure, instead I feel like I'm about to
be bitten by a wolf in sheep's clothing.

Snuck your way under my constructed
defenses-and I never saw it coming.
Because, I thought I could trust you- I
thought that you were the one person
that I could trust with my life.

I thought it was safe to let you in, that
you'd love me, protect me, be there for
me. That no matter what, I could always
count on you.

-I guess I was wrong.

I forgot to mention that I love the title! It's a perfect fit for this poem.

Wow. This poem really moved me... I could relate to everything you've expressed here. It's so painful to realize the one person you thought you could trust, is actually the person you shouldn't. I'm sorry if you really are going through this!

I love the first two lines of this poem... we always seem to get deceived by the eyes... you mention how sweet this person's eyes are, yet you never realized how deceitful they were. I feel like many people can relate to that.

I like the simplicity of this poem... you clearly expressed how disappointed you are in this person... you trusted him or her, despite your defensive walls.

    Well done with this poem!

I feel there is a lot more pain, anger and distrust behind this write. I also like the title "costumes are slipping" for
it shows/peels away the true colors behind the nature of a person. A sad write that everyone can understand and have gone through...take care.
