Ceramic

by Hannah Lizette   Sep 22, 2014

She splashes her face
with numbing water,
allowing the droplets to
stream down her face and
seep into the canals
that tears have carved,
creating cadaverous
cheekbones that never
blush naturally.

"She's ceramic," they said.
Too fragile to stand on
her own and too uninviting
to be showcased.

Bones frame the edge
of the bathroom sink,
visions of terror leak
through yawning eyes
as she relives the
night she became nothing
more than useless pottery.
