The Leaf and the Twig (song)

by Maher   Nov 5, 2014

There once was a name on a leaf whose branch
grew further than the reach of the sun.
And a myriad of twigs on a cold Winter day,
that all seemed alike, save for one.
One fell to the ground where it lay and it lay,
'till the wind blew it far from it's home.
With each flick and fall that would chip it away,
the leaf would grow ever alone.

When the sun came to warm the Winter away,
the Spring came to fill them with hope.
As it warmed it would hold the greyness at bay,
making way for the green grass to grow.
But there lies the leaf as it withers and breaks,
it's name growing brittle and old.
And there skips the twig, wind still chipping away,
skipping further and further from home.

This poem is so graceful and elegant. A somber, sorrowful poem, mixed with a nature scene metaphor that is just out of this world.

This poem makes me think of two lovers lost within the seasons of change.. One dying without the other and the other just floating along through life.

I got so caught up in the sorrow of this piece and yet each line I'm saying to myself "so beautiful, so very beautiful"

Nature mixed with sorrow/ metaphoric simplicity at its finest this week! Bravo!!!

Thank you Maple :) It's a true story which is why it made sense to myself and to others I guess.

Beautiful poem here, I really enjoyed the flow you created within it. It was a pleasure to read and it is always nice to read a poem which has such a beat to the words like this one has.

The idea is unique, and the title fits perfectly too, it caught my eye anyway!

    Good descriptions. Well done.
