Tale of a dead Fox

by Pratap Rudra   Feb 8, 2015

A tale - of a dead Fox:

Listen to a story, my friend
Of there once lived a hound

Proud and majestic
Happy and ecstatic
He stalked the forest ground

On the full moon nights
In his frenzied delight
He would howl his trumpet loud

His howl was deep
mystical and sweet
Like a beautiful forest song

A terror of thought
A legend of sort
His stories would set children asleep

The down-town folks
Called it a friendly fox
For they said, he would protect the forest from thieves

No one would go
to the forest alone
Without a hymn for his shield

The fox was God,
to the down-town folks
He became a legendary facet !

He got them luck,
their days were ripe
The folks lived happily, respite..

******
One day,
the Hunter's wrath
Killed him - alas!

The Death of fox
Brought a severe drought
A curse that would forever last.

One could feel,
the forest grieve
Good-times were now a memory past!

*******
Old times were they, as people say
The Spirits of the Fox do live

Deep in the forest
Is a Den,
a place,
where he once did live !
