Hold My Hand And Bring Me To The Sun

by cassie hughes   Jul 27, 2015

Catch my heart before it plummets
from this lofty perch onto the
stony ground that lies beneath,
to shatter 'midst a million broken dreams.
Dry the tears which follow in its wake
to paint a salty trail down cheeks
no longer flushed with loves wild promise,
after hope of reconciliation fails.
Hold my hand as icy fingers trail
a hot tattoo of pain around my heart
when real life crashes in with sudden,
fierce all-consuming fury.
Soothe my soul when all I wish
is for a hole to open up and swallow
down the senseless desperation
for a love long lost but by myself denied.
Hide away the told you so's that
spout in painful bursts from lips
now eager to recall the painful truth,
that loss hurts even more the second time around.
Stay beside me as I gather up what's left
of pride and build a bonfire for the
tattered remnants of a life spent living in the past,
then turn me round and point me t'wards the sun.

Written for one of Saffies challenges using the prompt - Second time around.

Cassie, this is truly beautiful - you're inspired at the moment. The heart-ache and emotion in this are incredible, and the imagery second to none. Beautifully written as always, and nominated!
