The Land I Love

by Anna Stephens   Oct 28, 2015

Sandstone monuments rise
above the valley floor,
sienna, alizarin, cad yellow, orange.
Silent sentinels reaching
to meet the blue,
cerulean, cobalt, ultramarine.
Proud pines of phthalo,
sap, earth and olive
Bow under the weight
Of titanium zinc.
Distant mountains of
prussian, dioxazine, umber,
in Fall are dressed in
chrome oxide, cinnabar, naples.
Sunset brings the very best,
rose madder, violet, gold ocher.
these are the tools
of my chosen profession.
With loving hand and poised brush
I paint the land I love.

    Hello Anna,

another win and another poem. This time a very different style. It reminded me of walking around a DIY store on a Saturday choosing paint from a paint chart.
    Pyramids
    Sky
    Trees
    Mountains
    Sunsets

all these and more need descriptions to paint a picture of them. The colours are your tools and the tools of poetry craft; a craft we can all relate to. It is so lovely to see a dedication to imagery of nature. Now, that is something we can all agree on is lovely.

    Well done.
