I Died for You

by Maple Tree   Jan 4, 2016

I could feel the snow flakes
resting gently upon my lashes
as you helped me into the car.

My frozen cheeks wanted to smile,
but the doubt I had was burning within
the deepest part of my soul.

I never allowed a person to love me
because I never loved myself.

My snow boots started dripping
melted snow upon that old
Chinese carpeting,
warmth started to ignite a dark place,
a very dark place inside my heart.

Lonely days began to fade
as you and I shared our
nightmares, dreams, and
lonely nights before we said
hello.

Mr Sunshine,
I've always shared company
with depression,
I died the day you said
"I love you" -

I've been living ever since....

This is beautiful - truly. Those last few lines really got me.

"I died the day you said "I love you" - I've been living ever since...."

This is such a clever and joyously moving way to end a lovely and descriptive piece.
    Thoroughly enjoyed.
    All the best,
    Ben
