Church

The earth has received you with open arms, welcoming.
Your voices have been snatched and thrown by the wind amongst these colours.
In rustling tones, they whisper of your lives.
In peace and solitude you lie,
I FEEL you as I sit here with you.
The daylight sprinkles rainbows through your night
Curtains parted from eternal life.
These birds wings breaking through the silences
As boughs bend low to touch this earth
So gently do your souls blend with this life.
The wind, it seems, breathes out your names
And whispers as it wraps around me.

I feel alone, and, oh, so cold, yet peaceful.
Is Death the harbinger of dreams?
Man contemplates your fickle nature,
Then builds a spire to touch the sky,
Afraid of what he cannot know.
It looks down on your faceless presence
To struggle so, for so much knowledge.
A bell tolls of remembrance -
I close my eyes to hear its voice.
It distracts my solitude, my reverie,
It draws me back where I belong,
Where you belonged once, long ago.
This wooden gate now leads me from within
To where I cannot reach you any more,
And as I leave I feel the pressure of your tears -
They touch my face,
Reminders of your struggling years.
