Wondering Why

by Rob   Jun 12, 2016

Life is for the young at heart,
For the old have lived their dreams,
And found out for themselves,
Life was not all that it seemed...

At birth only one promise given,
That we are only born to die,
As everything between,
Leaves us asking why...

Why did this have to happen,
Why were they taken now,
Why didn't someone stop this,
Why and when and how...

Although some find their fortune,
There is something you should know,
It is usually at a cost,
Of stepping on others toes...

Take a look through history,
Of all who died in vain,
It is then you begin to see,
That life is not a game....

We are pawns in a tragic world you see,
Where there is no reason why,
That some are chosen only,
To become the next to die...

While bullets fly through school yards,
And Police are killed at a lunchtime meal,
And planes that fall from skies,
It all seems so unreal...

Living for tomorrow,
In the midst of fright and fears,
Knowing all along,
That tomorrow will bring more tears...

No one has the answer,
Every day it just gets worse,
There is only one way out,
And all of us are cursed...

We wonder where life will take us,
I'm glad that we were friends,
But like the beginning promise,
Its death where life will end...

Rob, this is a truly wonderful and enthralling write. Every stanza I seemed to be nodding along because it was so true.
Made me think of a few quotes too.

I hope this gets nominated as it deserves it. I will be sire to when I get mine back.

    All the best, Em
