    Hello Brenda,

one of the great things about poetry is how it can be interpreted in so many different ways. Sometimes if one is feeling melancholy words will translate to differently to when we feel euphoric. Today, I feel critical and skeptical, so when I read this I felt protective towards you, interpreting the flora reference as a simile for body image. The OCD behaviour a partner who seeks control in areas of his life, including how his partner looks. His behaviour includes checking out other 'neat little bushes' while he '...break off branches and yank out stems at their base? All because they may have strayed
through the fence? Here he forces control by physically and mentally bullies his way.

Your anger at this 'rude little man' is encouraged by this reader, willing you to fight back at this aggressive and undeserved behaviour. Only a shallow mind seeks to control another - why, because they struggle to control their own lives.

Brenda, I realise I am over analysing, but sometimes we write what our hearts needs to 'out'
They say writing is often a cathartic process and this piece looks like a text book example.

    Well done and take care,

    Michael

Aww Michael, thank you! If I was still married to my ex I would say this was about him and the way he treated me. He is a passive aggressive type and thought woman and anybody that wasn't him was a lesser person. My current husband is the polar opposite of him. He'll send me text during the day just to let me know he's thinking of me and how lucky he is, stuff like that. Nothing like that nasty man I was previously married to. So I am truly touched by your concern. This poem is actually about our neighbor who is a rude little man. God forbid a stray leaf finds its way into his yard. It's not like we don't keep our yard nice, it is , he's just psycho and unhappy and one of these days he's going to catch me on a not so good day, just saying. If I could afford a privacy fence I'd have one up in a heartbeat. We've put a lot of sweat equity into our yard to make it nice, I don't need him spraying weed killer at the base of the fence because one of our flowers is touching it. Sorry, got on a rant, lol. Take care Michael!

It's awful when you have bad neighbours especially when they destroy all your hard work. As Michael said Your poem inspires different emotions in readers dependant on their mood. For me it raises sympathy with your predicament because it is so hard when you have bad neighbours especially when they try and destroy something that you have put a lot of love into. It also reminds me of some of the awful people I have come across in my life. I always wonder what it is that makes people so bitter and twisted that they would harm others by word or deed. I think they are so unhappy with their lives that they cant stand to see anyone happy. Take care and keep your spirits up Milly x

Aww thanks Milly! Yes, I wonder the same thing about him. He'll talk briefly to my husband but just gives me mean mugs. I'm always thinking:"I will squash you like a bug little man!" I appreciate your encouragement! Hugs-

Whether its about people, plants or animals some just don't know how to treat the others. They think just because some don't speak out they can take advantage. I like the strength in your voice here and yes there are times some people need to be put back in their place or plucked out of their comfort zone!

Hah, what a spectacularly written piece, completely grounded in reality with a foundation of frustration that's unmistakeable. You should really print this out and put it on his door. Perhaps he has nothing in his life to be happy about, so he chooses to be miserable about everything.

Regardless, you painted a picture with words, and a very beautiful picture it was.

    Wonderful job, yet again!

Thank you Stephen! Yes, I have thought about doing just that, lol. He does seem like a miserable little man. Hopefully he doesn't catch me outside when I'm in a not so good mood, he may get an earful, lol!

    Hi Brenda,
I felt a very frustrated tone here which is unusual in your calm, wisdom writing.
I know how bothering some neighbours could be, and sometimes ignorance could be the best solution :)

Thank you- I usually don't let most things make me this frustrated. I guess actually seeing him do it to my poor defenseless plants makes me spin a bit sideways. He's not the most pleasant fellow, sigh...

    "Perhaps I should plant
    some Heracleum Mantegazzianum...
    along the fence,
    just for you?
That Giant Hog Weed would give
    you a jolt,"

You tell 'em, Brenda!! Sorry, I understand this must've been some sort of vent, but it was pretty amusing too ;P
He's clearly not as much of a nature-lover lol
I like the category you chose for this little piece too
    Super amused -lol-

Thank you so much! No, don't fret, I always like to.put a bit of humour in there, probably keeps me from going over the fence at him. I don't think he's much of a nature lover either, if his whole yard was rocks he'd be happy.

    Judging Comment:

I truly enjoyed reading this write this week because it seems to be so fitting of the world in countless aspects and perceptions. There are some very important trains of thought in this piece that could really prove Gandhi right in saying that we must be the changes we wish to see in the world. Where the author credits their inspiration for this piece also intrigues me, while that is not one of Frost's most known pieces a fair amount of people have come across it and it seems like each of those people gleans something entirely different from the piece than the last - or any other for that matter. And even if they do all have the same interpretations so many people run in such unique directions with their own personal flares and this week this piece has done an incredible job of that. Brenda has done a phenomenal thing by sharing this here with the PnQ community.

    P.S. Congrats on the win!!!!!
