Snake

by Jay Colon   Sep 30, 2016

The devil in sheep clothing
In its transmutation
Shedding its scales
It looked so beautiful

Until it was revealed a reptile

It no longer slithered
Cloaking itself to be human
It got up with confidence
It yelled babe

Hypnotized me with a gaze
A snake I didn't see
It hissed i love you

It waited to attack
Spread all the venom into my veins

Making empty promises

I will never leave
You mean everything to me
Always and forever

My feelings are unfathomable
I was so blinded

I didnt realise I was attacked
I didn't identify the snake
Its gender was a woman

The story of this snake

the woman I loved
Lie directly in my face
Was my greatest enemy
laid right next to me

Until she stop shedding
The truth was revealed

Influenced by Satan
Taking off the social mask
Her named was revealed
Catherine Gordon

The snake behind my heartbreak
The lesson in my blessings
She was my biggest thank you

I have learned my lesson

    Hello Jessie

A really personal and scathing piece here.
I cannot help but wonder how the greatest thing in the world - love - can be so damaging to so many people and cause so much hurt.
I guess for everything there's a balance, unfortunately. It stands to reason that something that brings such happiness can bring despair when taken away. Anyway, I'm rambling. Great write and I love the extended snake metaphor, by the way.

A very good, interesting write about the snakes in this world. It's hard sometimes as you described so well, how to spot them and not become enamored with them. One possible typo, in your first "It waited attacked", shouldn't that just be "attack"? Aside from that, really enjoyed this-well done-
