Corner of light

by Yakari Gabriel   Oct 31, 2016

Maybe, it was because of
the insults of my mother
how they would always cut
she speaks a broken Spanish,
one that does not say "dame mas'
but "dame u chin"..
and laughs at you if you don't understand

maybe, it was the absence of my father,
my aunt, my grandmother, my sisters,
my cousins.
all that love I only know through stories
I've heard from somebody else.

maybe it was destiny,
the pain of not belonging
I, who ran so far from my roots
not knowing that they
were the only corner in the
world-
who could stand all my light

-----

authors note : "Dame mas" means "give me more" in Spanish
In the Dominican Republic they say "dame un chin"..
which would literally translate to give me a little bit,
but actually means give me more..

Yakari, another personal, emotional piece full of yearning for the past gone by and I think we can all relate to that at least, relate to the guilt of wrong doings but we have to realise that the past is the past and it is what it is which makes us who we are today; stronger, independent etc etc.

1: Firstly I tried to translate those words but it didn't work so I cannot comment on them but I guess they are of real importance. Mothers should not ridicule their children but some times (which is unfortunate) they do and it harms the soul which has lasting effects.

2: This is a sad tale and one which I can relate to because my dad was absent and I missed out from his love and the love of other family and though it hurts we still love them don't we? We put ourselves through headache and why? Because we are good people despite what we think.

3: When we have been hurt so many times we feel that we are destined for pain and heartache all along but we need to realise that it is a bad day, month or year not a bad life.

    Another thought provoking piece.
    Well done, Em

Edit; I seem to have missed the authors note apologies.
