Ben I like what you did with the title.. Like the sign of times but instead the chime of times to relate nicely to the content. Unfortunately this is the sign of the times as many people will not fight to fix their marriage but instead take the easy way out of divorce.
I like the title Ben; it really links up nicely with the volta.
The institution that is marriage is long gone. It's all too easy to get out of a life commitment. Of course there are many reasons why this should be so, but the old fashioned values in me thinks, what a shame.
I agree, Michael. Personally, I like the idea of marriage and I love being married, but it is sad to see so many end so badly - for whatever reason. Although I am also aware that there is often little option but to end them.
I guess some of us will know already about certain couples who are heading towards a divorce even before they get married. The silly thing is some couples know it or see it yet they go through it perhaps blindness to the truth or their ego!
This is a wake up poem and this kind of write should be taken more seriously. Yes, I agree that we live in a world of divorce. The term 'divorce' has become very common now a days. I see celebrities are much more involved in this topic. Money and adultery could be main reasons for divorce. People need to understand that the burden of divorce fall on the small children.
"money and adultery" - two of the main reasons, definitely, Augustus. Although as I have said, for some people, there is no other option. I suppose I meant this more as a darkly humorous piece - not to judge in any way.
See, I struggle to create Haiku's and Senryu's exactly to form. That last line being the big punch. Love it and totally unexpected twist.
That being said, the divorce rate here in the US is about 40-50%. And what Autumn Breeze said is true. There are many parenting classes, surely there are co-parenting classes too? Would benefit the whole family.
Didn't really see that end coming Ben, but as I read through the comments I saw what you meant as having at first meant this piece for dark humor. I really like this and l am a fan of the Senryu poem but have never been able to create one that I felt was a true or good Senryu. I liked how the ending was a surprise.
