Bridge of locked hearts

by Savannah Hunter   Nov 26, 2016

I stand on an isolated bridge;
And look down at the beautiful water below.
The cold air blows around me;
Seeping through the warmth of the coat and deep into my bones.
Six months ago,
I watched as our love suffocated;
Burning out like a match.
It was unbearable.
In my hand I hold a lock.
A master lock at that;
Silver-grey.
Our initials are written in black sharpie;
Ink blotched onto metal.
Looking down At the lock;
I let the breeze embrace me;
Filling me,
In a sense;
With a feeling of peace
I slide the lock around the chain link on my side of the bridge;
Locking it in place.
Gripping the key tight in my hand;
I close my eyes and picture your face.
I never stopped loving you.
Through my tears;
I look down at the grey blue water,
Pressing the key gently to my lips.
I then reach out my hand,
Letting the key slip through my fingers;
Making the ten foot drop to the water,
Before hitting the surface with an almost inaudible splash.
I stand here for a moment;
Loving you a little more with each passing second,
Than I did the second before that.
I never stopped loving you.
And I never will.

    I vividly saw every line written in my mind.
    I saw myself at the end turning and walking away. Heartfelt
