Me and the tree

Me and the tree

Behind that majestic old oak tree, we first met, you and me two young lovers filled with glee.
Your eyes were ablaze, they shown brightly against the Sun's early morning haze, you smiled at my frozen enchanted gaze, Love has a way of finding a path through the maze.

I felt a sudden rush as into my heart the blood did rush, we were like young pups but as many know true Love must grow and in time it's fruit will show.
I now know how much I loved you, when we told your parents they almost had a cow.

What went wrong that we both now sing a very sad song?
As I step to leave the Bus the driver asks if I need help down the stairs, I laugh and say no but thinking to myself; where did all the years go?

As I pass through the old weathered gate I know where to go, my path is straight it leads to that old oak tree a place of haunting memory. As I approach I realize that there is someone behind that old oak, when she steps out I darn near had a stroke!

With a tear streaming down her wrinkled cheek she with a soft whisper says; I have come here each day since you went away and in my dreams we are together here, your sweet words I did hear.
With a broken heart I fell to my knees and said; I have always loved you and by that old tree I asked her; will you be my Bride to be?

She jumped upon me, we both fell to the ground and we rolled around for joy, she was my faithful lover and I was her great old boy!

Now we both sit in the backyard swing and gaze down that old trail where the oak is at the end just around the bend.
If you one day visit that old tree look for the carving with the heart and the arrow through it, check out our names; Emily and me. Look to your left where the hill meets the cleft, we both rest there after dying in our sleep, now with the Lord, His sheep, so no more crying.
