So this is Christmas? Collaboration by Em & Bren

by Brenda   Dec 22, 2016

Dirty, stinking water,
all about survival.
Few clothes or schools,
a real struggle to thrive-
Know only war, not love,
there seems no other way
in third world countries.
Even the merriment of Christmas day
is dampened in shades of gray.
-
Peace on earth,
goodwill towards man,
these thoughts tend to get lost
when you are staring out
at recently bombed out buildings.
What's a child to do?
-
I think back when I was a child-
Family get-togethers
gifts and food aplenty.
I feel guilty for having so much
when so many
have so little.
-
Now as a fully grown adult
I believe that there
really should be
"goodwill to all man"
even if it means giving
up the fight for just
one day a year,
Christmas...

    Hello ladies.

Yes, it is rather confusing, isn't it? What on Earth can Christmas day really mean to the hundreds of thousands in these conditions? It's almost absurd - an extravagant luxury for those who are better off. What do we actually have to celebrate at the moment?
I know that that is a negative way of looking at things, but when innocent people live with such atrocities day in and day out, it's hard to be positive.

Well highlighted and all the best,

    Ben
