Love Story

by Scrittore   Dec 28, 2016

Perhaps true love does not exist
Perhaps love only brings pain.
Perhaps the best love is the one that ends
Before your heart begins to wane.
Perhaps the best love is one you've lost
And can never have again.
-----------------------------------------------------

I heard it said
the best love story is often
the one which ends
precisely
at the right time.
Perhaps it's true,
love is a thing that can
haunt and consume.

If you would ask what I would prefer
In a type of love to have,
I wouldn't want one so consuming
One that would remove my very breath.
I wouldn't want to lose myself
Or surrender every part of my soul,
I would want one that made me stronger
One not to make broken but whole.
I would want a love that's simple,
Quiet and unconstrained,
Yet bold, fierce and passionate
One not so easily contained.
I would want a love ongoing
Yet never of certainty.
The moment you know it's yours
Taken for granted it will forever be.
I would want a love so fullfilling
That I would surely burst
And a love so desireable
One of unquenchable thirst.
I would never want to stop wanting
I would never want to lose true reality.
This love of mine should not imprison
It should you only set you free!
But perhaps a love like this does not exist
Perhaps love only brings pain.
Perhaps the best love is the one that ends
Before your heart begins to wane.
Perhaps the best love is one you've lost
And can never have again.
