Lady of the Night

by Brookie   Dec 28, 2016

Ive sold my soul at least a dozen times
each encounter worse then the last,
yet still here I stand, A woman
who has been beaten, battered and bruised.

I stand proudly for who I am is not just
'a lady of the night'
but rather a tender soul who helps
not just her own but others in need too.

I believe that is the struggle I face
every time i look in the mirror.
My identity.
Who I see me as, not how the world does.

Still I can say I am a person just struggling to survive
but at the end of the day im nothing more
than just another toy for them to break,
another notch on their bed.

Brookie, this is a sad yet hard hitting piece that I guess is relatable to many people on this site and around the world.

Title - this was rather intriguing though I feel it is completely relatable to the poem itself.

1/ This is a very raw opening and I feel that personally once you have been hurt time and again you just expect to and when it happens you take it and we shouldn't. Then should be than, here

2/ I liked this because no matter what you're going through you helps others that need to too which makes you a beautiful person inside and out.

3/ We shouldn't have to face these struggles most definitely not alone but unfortunately we do and you'd think the times would change with it being 2017 but I don't think it ever will or at least not completely.

5/ People can be so cruel.

So, my first thought with the title was that it was about prostitution but I now feel that it is about having to hide because of being 'different', I'm not sure and apologies if I am wrong.

Take care and keep being you.

It is about prostitution. It can also be taken as being different.

I am different and for what i do to survive people generally look down on me. Its painful but its whatever. But they both work so thank you

Brookie, a sad and meaningful write. We tend to judge on face value and dismiss another because of the "job" they are doing. If its not something society deems as acceptable then this person becomes non human and not worthy of our acknowledgement. Your write sheds light on this and to be aware that we are all humans after all. Well done-
