Im Proud Of Who I Am

by charmaineMifsud   Jan 29, 2017

I am a lesbian.
That does not mean
that I am sick,
or I want every
girl on the street,
or that I am retarded,
or that have never
liked a guy.

I am a lesbian,
not a confused teen,
not going through some phase,
not being a drama queen
because of a simple crush.

I am a lesbian,
I have kissed a girl,
held a girl, touched a girl,
I have loved a girl.

I am a lesbian,
I was scared to tell my mom,
I was scared to tell my friends,
I was afraid of being rejected,
I was afraid of being alone.

I am a lesbian,
I thought long and hard,
before I could admit it
to myself, before I could decide
before I could let myself be.

I am a lesbian,
I am human too,
I am not some monster,
or a sin against God.

I am a lesbian,
I cannot change who I am,
and wouldn't want to if I
could.

I am a lesbian,
and I am proud of it
and every step I took,
so I could say in front of
you and the world,
that I am a lesbian.

And there's nothing you
can do to change that.
Or make me look down on myself.

If you are lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender or questioning,
say it loud and say it proud.

It's ok to be gay.

I am a lesbian.
I love myself.
I love being a lesbian.
I am proud to be a lesbian,
I am proud to be me.

A very powerful piece and I believe none of us should be afraid to be who we really are bit society has a lot to answer for with these fears..
    Very brave write.

Nicely laid out statement that will undoubtedly resonate with many. I especially like how you use "I am a lesbian" so it becomes a refrain and adds emphasis to the piece.

    Thank you for sharing.
