Comments : Asleep at the wheel

I love the comparison of a mundane life, carrying out the same boring tasks, day after boring day, to sleeping at the steering wheel of a car.

The car is an apt metaphor for a person. There they are on their journey, ambling along, one similar road to another - what I say is, we all drives 4 x 4's, and once we realise that we can drive off road and be free.

Brenda, I love the initial question, and the buildup to a killer line. Super stuff.

Michael, thank you! I do drive a 4x4 and there are so many times I just want to jump the curb and take off to the unknown. We traveled a lot as kids and I have never lost that need to see new things. As adults we get tied into our jobs and find ourselves asleep at the wheel.

Yes, Brenda - I feel like this sometimes. I wonder if we are not becoming the same as the machines we stand by!
Great write - all the best,

Ben, indeed! I am morphing into my desk and my computer is just going to open wide and poof, I am gone...thank you! I am glad you liked this.

This is excellent Brenda. Right now my life feels like this samey samey and robot like.. Though its never the four same walls because I've been to so many different hospitals. It's times like this I wish I could be back to the daily grind of work.
    Take care, Em

Thank you Em. So many hospitals does not sound good at all! I agree, I would rather be at work too. Prayers and hugs for you!

    This is a great write!

And absolutely terrifying to think about.

I understand the need for routine in most life circumstances (such as...well...life)...but how tedious and zombie-like it becomes! Gives me anxiety on so many levels.

You describe this perfectly...especially that last line...because unfortunately that is how many of us become...asleep at the wheel.

Ren, thank you so much! It is so true how we just become numb from doing the same thing. Have you ever been driving and then realize you have gone miles and don't remember it? That is scary!

Hey Brenda - well I have to say that I love this piece, I is certainly relatable and you voice with it is really powerful. i can definitely identify with this, sometimes it does feel like life is one big groundhog day, day in day out, often when I get like this when i'm waiting for something to happen, like long term goals that kinda thing.

Really love your word choice and structure in this write too!

    Love it.

    all the best

Ben, thank you so much. Some days are harder than others to deal with the grind.
