Blank Stars

by Shruti   Feb 12, 2017

My eyes searched for something bright
and tonight,
they found stars
in your eyes...
Descendent light stung raw smiles -
like brilliant stardust,
and rested playfully on your lips.
...and I watched.
Watching is all I ever do.
I watch you...as my eyes close...
...and I wish...
to lay my fingers on your smile...
...just once
and know the stars
that promise such love.
But you emerge like
a snow-veiled past,
but without a thousand memories;
like an echo that is lost...so far...
like the skies that reside...so high.
And often I wonder,
do you know me?
do you watch me too?
How I wish I could share with you
a breath...
a beat...of this heart.
But around me,
is fog, not clouds,
that forever draws the blinds
on my way to you;
and these nights always end into days,
and these games,
with me my reverie
always plays;
because you are just imaginary...
and I stare into blank stars...
and my wish -
empty.
