Broken Imagery

by Maple Tree   Mar 2, 2017

I smell Columbian coffee beans; brewing
as nightfall made love to shadow demons-
the night before.

This mug of mine holds my destiny for today
and my horoscope reads happiness.

It's been a long time since my shawl granted warmth
along these boney shoulders of mine...

One would like to think my wings have become mended;
however, they have accepted reality and have simply
learned to fly...

broken..........

    The intro reminded me of mornings - and late nights with some people that I miss dearly, so that was an amazing thing to connect with. Maple Tree didn't let me down as she created the idea of shadows playing or dancing around in the foreground of the author's world. The next stanza shows some contrast to this by introducing an idea of hope, which is turning the author back into something fragile. Above all else, the contrast and interesting style of back and forth really captivated audiences across the board this week,

    Beautiful. To be broken, is to be different, free. And that's a good thing.

    I'm with Brenda and Michael on this!

    Such an amazing poem! Full of beautiful imagery and so much emotion. Those last few lines are what really got to me. Sometimes we can never truly put ourselves back together the way we were...but even broken we can still rise up and move forward.
    I truly do love this...you did an incredible job, Andrea!
