Just A Child

by CJ Maleney   Mar 29, 2017

Pick up your soldiers.
Take your first train set,
Take the cymbals off that monkey
Give it something else instead.

Take all your pieces,
Place them in your squares.
When your toys are all broken,
Will you honestly still care?

Always another toy,
Something new just to amuse.
You care not what you have broken.
Not all things can be glued.

The toys that now you play with
Are not made of steel or lead.
They're not molded from plastic
They bleed and they have bled.

Abandoned toys left on the ground.
Was is it what we did, or said?
Embarrassed of your old play things.
You hide us in the shed.

When you finally grow up.
The lame rocking horse gets shot.
Will you expect us to adore you?
And still to call you god?

You gave us life, I grant you that.
And you created earth.
Through suffering and pain.

Tell me, what's our worth?

not the most informative of comments ill admit but i freakin love your writing craig there are times when your metaphors are so good that i question myself if i'm getting it right, the crazy thing about it is that even if i don't and take the words at face value and not metaphors the poem is still epic.

I hope that makes sense, i realise my comments are a little like drunken swing ball sometimes - all over the shop.

This speaks volumes. At first I was reminded of myself with old toys. I saw this in a literal sense. Then the last two verses, I was like, "well then...". Definitely something that makes readers think.

Just one thing, the 5th stanza
"Was is it what we did, or said?"

Massive typo if you look at it critically,

I'm leaving it in though as it as it flowed.

Glad you enjoyed the read though
