With loving words and open hands
I tried to coax you from your tomb,
But though I've danced upon your grave,
I never made the flowers bloom.
The clouds are blankets on your lungs
That seem to flood your heart with rain -
My well is parched while you lie there,
Now only wilting weeds remain...
I've begged the sun to mark your skin
By burning off that ghostly hue.
Alas! The moon outshines that orb
And so the skies are rarely blue.
You always loved a pretty word -
The silver guile of a tongue -
And so I sing a sonnet now
That leaves this wretched spell undone:
"Remain with me and dress my heart in blooms
And light a flame extinguishing the night.
With veins that pulse with life, denounce your tomb,
Then dance with me in lands where eyes are bright.
Come back from where the ghouls have taken you
And bathe in turquoise pools beneath the stars;
Don't fly the clouds that all those others flew -
I will not have our lives a life apart!
Remember when our lips were glossed in love?
Remember when these coals were red with lust?
If you now give a beat to Him above,
I will become the damned and grounded dust.
Amidst the dreams that hold your heart in chains,
Allow my wings to free you once again."
Is that a stir upon my hand?
Are words of poise the answer yet?
God knows, I've sat and waited long
To rid you of this blasted debt.
A breath! A little breeze upon
My lips as they alight on yours.
You will yet walk away from all
These battles and these sordid wars.
"What? say nothing more..."
"the wind has blown out my flame"
"No! not one word - to sleep and rest"
"this heart is full with worlds of pain"
"Then take these tears and with them wet
The barren land that suffocates"
"with every day i wake and rise,
the night's cruel black will not abate"
"Then go. Be happy. Don't look back -
I cannot stand your broken heart"
