Rebuilding the Walls...

by Matt Carroll   Aug 1, 2017

Once again returned to where I started
Alone, battered and brokenhearted
I guess I'll just never be quite enough
Could loving me really be so tough?

I tore down these walls that stood so tall
Brick by brick, for you it surely did fall
So long it had been since I let anyone in
Now I am not sure if I shall ever again

I offered all that I am and all I could be
All that I was I laid plainly to see
To give up all I had, all that I've got
To make you mine was all that I sought

You have made your decision, he won and I lost
At the expense of my heart, all my effort was tossed
Cast aside as you settle for what you know isn't right
I lie here in tears as I will each lonely night

Now I rebuild this wall...so thick and so tall...
What's little is left me can't be a bother at all
Sealing myself deep inside...in the darkness I hide...
Trapped alone with these feelings...at least I can say that I tried...
