Faceless friends (Originally a cycle of Emojis)

by Justen Smith   Aug 19, 2017

This Social media,
I don't get it,
They say use it for friends,
But instead we get lost,
In posts and likes,
We create a generation of narcists,
Then use it to complain,
That we are A broken society,
Dinners are quiet now,
Waiting on a notification,
Sharing with the world,
While keeping our family in the dark,
We have created a fear,
Of interaction,
What if I don't make them Lol,
Or smiley face emoji,
I look at what we became,
And rejoice that Shakespeare,
Had to use quill and paper,
Not keyboard and screen,
Then again this is just ironic,
Im sat here on my phone,
In my head,
Locked away,
And inside I'm hoping,
That i'll get that blue thumb,
We need to escape,
This destiny of crowded loneliness,
But maybe before I go,
I can get one more like,
Anyway im going now,
Ill see you tomorow,
My dear faceless friends.

Could not agree more...sometimes I think I am the only person who think this way! Glad to share your sentiments. My phone doesn't have internet so I don't have to worry.

Thank you Moss and Em, social media had suh potential but like most things this flawed little thing, called the human race, wastes the potential we have to spread awareness of severe issues.

Justen, you will never know to what extent I agree with this poem and applaud you for standing up and saying how superficial and narcissistic this world has become. I should stop or I'll end up on a rant about people on their phones in restaurants and around dinner tables when they should be talking to their children. Or the mothers who never interact with their toddlers as they push them one-handed in their buggies, talking an tweeting or... See? :(
I don't even have a mobile phone anymore - that's how sick I am of the way we're headed.

All the best, my faceless friend,
    Ben

Thanks, there is a new device called the anti smart phone, it links to your phone and clones its call abilities from your contract. It holds ten numbers only, with a keypad and only makes calls...no iternet or anything...its design to look like an i phone simoultaneously fullfills the superficial need to have an expensive phone...but I doubt that anyone can avoid checking facebook long enough to appreciate this gift and oppertunity.

Redacted as smileys dont work and the original title was an emoji roller coaster.
