Inside of Me

by BlueJay   Sep 14, 2017

I have rose petals in my bloodstream
mixed up with a rainbow of inks,
too many stories for someone my age,
and far too much caffeine, but hey

that's beside the point, and if not
well, it really should be.

There are yellow rose petals flowing
within my very body for all the friends
I've lost from running away or shoving
them to the ground when they got too close.

Violet petals course through my
every move in honor of every lesson
that could have killed me, but just

didn't have enough
gun powder behind it.

But what is most interesting of all
has to be the innocent pink petals
from all the boys who thought we
could make something work when
there was nothing there to begin with.

And now that I am living in
one of the biggest cities around,
I moved here for all the wrong reasons
and the rose garden in the center
of all the hustle and bustle

reminds me of it all.

Now, with all this ink racing
alongside the petals and caffeine,
I might as well make something of it -

something beautiful and inspiring.

But the roses surrounding
the brightest sunlight I have
ever seen, just won't let me.

My words get tangled up
in their thorns and my wrists
are bruised by unexpected rainbows
from the fountains and fairies
all through the garden.

Even the museum next door
filled with information on
how the body works, and what
it means to be hurt or healed

cannot cure me now.
