Dad

by Brenda   Sep 18, 2017

I always looked
up to you-
my shining star...
Throughout my life
you have guided me-
helping me navigate life's ups and downs,
disciplined me,
yelled a time or two,
but loved me.
Oh God, how you loved me!
Unconditionally, no strings attached love...
-
You were the first man
I fell in love with-
My daddy,
the one who kissed
my boo-boos
and scared the monsters
from under my bed...
-
The man who gave me
the wings to fly
safe in the knowledge
you'd be there
in case I fell,
to pick up the pieces,
hug me tight
and set me right...
-
I'm going to miss you Dad,
My bright and shining star.
You will forever
be of my heart.
And when I look up in the night sky,
seeing all those
twinkling lights,
I know you are still here,
guiding me,
watching out for me,
always loving me...

This was written for my friend and boss who recently lost her father.

This is very touching and he would feel extremely honored. Sadly I can't relate to my father but your friends dad was a great person. All the best as always Hugs

although this was written for your dear friend, i feel the love and pain that must mirror inner feelings. this is written so well that it choked me as I read the palpable emotion. well done.

Brenda, this is a piece that makes me emotional for two reasons...
1/ mine and my fathers bond was never even close to this and
2/ your friend having such a bond as this with her own father which has been cut 'short' so to speak, I guess it's bittersweet but more sweet than anything and you always write in this simplistic, and profound way that moves me to any emotions I should be feeling when I read your pieces.

    Much love

Much love to you Em. It's never easy when you don't have that type of relationship with a parent and others do. Or you never really had the chance to. I'm mostly thankful she's had these years to be with her dad and I greatly appreciate your kind and wonderful words,to me. Hugs my friend-

Awww thank you Michael. I'm a blubbering idiot when it comes to talking, it's a whole lot easier to write things. Hugs-
