Weak (short poem)

by Matt Carroll   Sep 20, 2017

I am exhausted from trying to be stronger than I feel

The pain within the silence seems to be all that is real

I grow weary of pretending that I'm doing even just alright

For on these dark, cold, quiet nights...I find not the strength to fight

...to be continued? No. I concur with my peers that this needs go no further to portray it's message.

This may be short but it's extremely powerful and resounds a little bit too much with me, a little close to home. The rhyming is fantastic and the whole piece is too even if a rather saddening piece.
The title says it all. My first thought was why are you weak, what's made you feel this way, is it possibly something you've done ie given up on something you set your heart on or is it others that have made you feel this way but then I read on and realised why you felt this weakness and it's a familiar feeling for me unfortunately. Your wording though 'simple' is just right for this piece.

    1/ I nodded here because
I know how exhausting it is to have this strong pretence where we pretend we're strong when amongst family and friends but break a little bit more when alone because we only have ourselves to be strong for and because people don't realise how we feel deep down so often and if they do know they don't fully understand why we feel this way and often I wonder if I know myself which I assume you can relate to. Is the speech mark at the beginning meant to be there?

2/ yes and it screams at us that we're alone even if we are not because it's how we feel and we feel numb too from the loneliness and the pain.

3/ I also do the same don't want to pretend anymore then I carry on doing so telling these lies of being OK when in fact we aren't - these white lies begin to bring us down but we are strong even if we don't believe we are.

4/ a very sad ending that sums up this piece nicely.

I hope you find peace - remember its not a bad life just a bad day, week, month or year.

    Take care

    Matt,

I wouldn't necessarily continue it there; it says all it needs to say very clearly.
Well done and all the best,
    Ben
