A brighter view (English sonnet)

by Michael   Sep 25, 2017

The carnage opened up its flooded gate;
a bloodbath runs from taps and overflows
an island now becomes a torrid state
a vortex spun a fate with forceful blows.
My eyes have seen such utter disbelief,
a temper tantrum leaves an anguished mark;
an aftermath that beckons years of grief
with stranded lives now left out in the dark.
We can but only hope for times of calm
and send our love and hearts across the sea
lets hope that sun beams fan a warming balm
and tranquil times flow back to family.
whatever faith we all believe is true
lets hope the wind will blow a brighter view.

    This is great! I've not attempted a sonnet yet but I'm studying the structure and this is flawless and poignant ... one powerful persons' bad decision can cause grief for generations ... so sad and so well written :-) x
