Roses and Shadows Bloom Together

by BlueJay   Sep 26, 2017

I have gardens thriving in my veins
fertalized by the ashes of too many
unspoken goodbyes and watered by tears.

The ghosts of the people I never got
enough time to love, rent out space
in my heart and tend to the thorns
so my wrists stay sewn shut this time around.

I am made of olive branches and
goddamn heavenly roses tended by angels

and from now on Sorrow

has no power over me.

Maddy, I just love this! I love the visual thought of us tending our inner gardens and what grows there. Added to my favorite.

Maddy, this is fabulous. What I love about this write is the idea that good can come from bad; that sorrow can quite literally 'fertilise' a once barren soil and make us stronger in the end. But more than anything, I love the 'goddamn' stubbornness of it and your refusal to give in. Nominated.

    Take care
