The Great Filter

by Tony   Oct 3, 2017

A lonely island of insignificance
Overpopulated by impotence
Who overreach in their ignorance
The place that they call Earth
A mote of dust in the grand design
A skewed perspective leaves them blind
Seeking that which none should find
They overemphasize their worth

It's a wonder they've not destroyed themselves
Created their own little orb of hell
Enthralled as they are by the spell
That pulls the wool over their eyes
They pick at their own psychology
Kill over ideology
Making no apologies
Fully believing their own lies

Time will be the great divide
The culling from which none can hide
The omnipotent pesticide
The venom in their vermouth
In time all will turn to dust
Oxidize, rot, and rust
Leaving only mold and must
Revealing the truth

If a tree falls when no one's around
In time it won't matter... if it made a sound
