The Warnings

by Deonya Moore   Oct 5, 2017

I've felt them tumble down my cheeks
I've heard it crack from just a word
You really swept me off my feet
But you never said the fall would hurt
The impact won't hit me faster
Than your love- It's much more deadly
And since you've left me, I've been broken

They warned me that life will give me twists and turns sometimes
And they told me money wasn't everything to keep me alive
And they made me promise I wouldn't let the pain fester inside
And they were right about love- It can turn a seeing man blind

One touch and my whole body shivers
One glance makes me want to forget all that's in my head
There was the one time in bed, I felt a slither
You said that you'd quit her, but you lied instead
The truth could never hit as hard
As your love- I swear it's more deadly
And since you've left me, I've not known what to do

They warned me that friendships will change sometimes
And they once said that cars and clothes weren't the only things in life
And they made me promise that I wouldn't lose my mind
And they were right about loving you- But I couldn't see the signs

Everyone knew you were wrong,
That I shouldn't have put up with you for so long
And they tried making me see you for the coward you are
For tearing me apart, breaking my heart

They warned me that life wasn't always gonna be butterflies
And they once said the darkness can't always hide from the light
And even when I had promised to love you with all my might
But they were right about loving you- All you're good at is saying,
Goodbye

I really like this and it resonated with me. Hindsight would be great but when we love it's so easy to ignore the warning signs, we don't want to believe the truth.
I think this is insightful and well written. :-)
