Scrambled Eggs

by mossgirl19   Oct 13, 2017

Today, we gathered over the first
scrambled eggs you have
prepared for us in history.

The scenario at the table
was so foreign I could feel
your hands tremble
as you pass the omelet around.

It’s impossible for any of us
to believe you sincerely care now,
and I sincerely wish you knew
you didn’t have to do this-

the scrambled eggs was great
but was a little overly done
like your drama;

don’t worry, Grandpa,
you don’t need eggs
to make people love you- atleast,
that was a lesson Grandma taught me.

I have known grandpa to be quite a stone-hearted man,
a perfectionist, unforgiving in many ways. Since Grandma's
death, he has been trying his best to show he cares,
he must be afraid no one is going to look after him,
which is of course impossible, as we care for him sincerely.

Btw, today is his 82nd birthday. :-)

    Awh, this was warming and this bit right here made me laugh;

    "the scrambled eggs was great
    but was a little overly done
    like your drama;"

    I love your style of writing - and I hope your grandpa also got to read this ^-^

    Happy Birthday Grandpa!
    Mel this is so very poignant, and so astute of you to realise what lies behind his uncharacteristic hospitality with the eggs. I think often the death of a family member or spouse forces us to reassess our place within a family and adjust accordingly. Love this :-) x

    :( ....stone hearted man showing glimpses of frailty, cooking eggs for the first time. Powerful image. Hope he is doing well Mel and hope you are as well.
