The Curse of An Ocean (Shakespearean Sonnet)

by Everlasting   Oct 25, 2017

When Love began to ebb back to my arms
the sun had risen warmly in my heart
and all the doubts that dried me with harms
were flooded and then washed so far apart.
I turned into an ocean one more time
who splished and splashed some joy to those around.
I let some dive into my life sublime
to watch me grow so blue as in me they drowned.
But oh if only I remained a land
where they could have just breathed and ran their life
Perhaps then with the help of their own hand
that land could have just turned so greenly alive

Because being an ocean that is deep
can be a curse if they dive in you to sleep

Ah this is great! I love the idea of a person being a deep ocean and the flow and rhyme of your sonnet felt smooth and read really well :-)

Just a small query though ...
"where them could have just breathed ..."
    Did you mean 'they'?

A lovely read. I've been trying to write my first sonnet and I'm failing miserably so I really appreciate how tricky this is! Good stuff! :-)

Yup, it should be “they”. Thank you.
