Dark storms

by Michael   Nov 13, 2017

A storm arrives-

lightening flashes;
streaking memories
along the hallway
.
Shadows flicker;
like an old cine-film;
images, behold-
of a cloak and
dagger.

Scintillating.

Silhouettes drip-
fearful memoirs
down the wall.

Floor-
boards groan
from your
presence.

Nostalgic fumes
convey with an
old-fashioned
stench of a distilled;
disturbance, wafting
a scent of foul-play.

a taste of a vile
behaviour.

My ears burn with
its toxic thoughts

choking me!

Its movements
sway, with an
unstable message;
slurring in its own
language.

My heart-beats-
for a peaceful night.

Thunder, rolls-around;
with echoes of cackling..

..as,

the storm-

passes out.

    Not read much in a few weeks dude, but I read this tonight. Pleased I did.

    I love the content, but because I read fast, and I read in song format, I found its structure a little jumpy, it has enough in it to be able to compress to fuller stanza and a more flowing from. It's a personal preference thing I guess!

    All in all, thank you so much for gracing my eyes with your words, it was a pleasure to read.

      Thanks Craig, for comments and feedback fella :)
      Free-verse can be a little odd to read, and the flow doesn't work like rhyme. Its almost how I'm saying it, and words that fit accordingly, along with pauses. But I do understand what you mean.

    The imagery in this piece really is spot on. Some of those cine-film images really can be quite haunting, can't they? I actually have an old cine-camera upstairs that used to belong to my father - he used it to take rather embarrassing videos of us as youngsters, eg, running around the beach in nothing more than a little sunhat. Course, all that stopped when we hit 16, but it's still embarrassing.... :))

      Thank you Ben,

      my poem relates to past child-hood experiences. Its about a very drunken babysitter actually, who wasn't the best of babysitters! And reflects on a time when there was a terrific storm and they were drunk, and literally passed out before they got to me. The lightening reminds me of those images upon the wall etc. Just reminiscent of past times, and the uneasy times :)
