Tightrope Of Twine

should the moon
make lamebrains of us both,

or the rouge leaves
relieve us of our ailing sense -

if the heady scent of musk and lust
makes mirages in this room,
and the Devil's discordant bells
outweigh the angels' harmonious harps -

then let the cold light of morning
lacerate this tightrope of twine
that we have woven and are destined

to fall from anyway
