Sensational Season

by Alex Penuelas   Nov 25, 2017

Waking up to the sweet sensations
of buttered Belgian waffles,
to the irresistible aromas of
slow-roasted ham and eggs,
and to the heavenly aroma
of fresh French roast coffee,
was one of the most romantic compilation of scents
that my nose has ever felt.

Coming out of my cave of a bed,
out into the nicely lit kitchen room,
with a few sun rays glistening down
on the shiny forehead of my father,
on the beautiful smile of my mother,
the busy body of my awesome aunt,
and on the golden brown hair of my sister,
appeared almost nostalgic.

The clever cacophony of
sweet songs and soft spoken speech,
combined with the words of
genuine love and care
between each of my family members,
was such a sweet thing to hear for once.

The hugs, the kisses,
the caressing of hair,
the genuine feeling of heartfelt care
between the physical interactions
with everyone in my family,
made me feel so alive,
something i haven't truly felt
since I don't know when.

The beautiful combination
of pan con chumpe with jalapenos,
of macaroni salad and ensalada rusa,
alongside the delightful taste of
Costco pumpkin pie,
was an orchestra of flavors
for my excited taste buds.

What I am trying to say is,
yesterday was... a good day.

A day that my soul has been longing for
for so many years.

A day of....serenity,
tranquility,
calmness,
and above all else,
a day full of food.
