Hey there Baby

by Alex Penuelas   Dec 17, 2017

Hey there Baby,
How's everything?
What you been up to?

It's been so long
Since we last talked
On Skype, when you told me
That you loved me.

I still remember those late nights,
When you and I would
Take the bus to and from the mall
To get you the clothing you wished
From Forever 21.

Those late afternoons,
When you and I
Walked barefoot by the beach,
Hand in hand, staring at the soft sunset.

How you loved to wear my clothes,
How you loved to hold my close,
Because you were addicted to
The scent of the cologne I would wear.

How you made me laugh
When I was down,
How I carried you
When your legs were too tired.

Yeah. I remember.

I don't think you do though.

Not since you, well,
Basically were seeing him
Behind my back.

You know who I'm talking about.

You told me after all, baby.

You know,
As much as I'm mad at my buddy
For doing this to me,
I can't forget that I
Should have seen the signs
Before I collided on the banks of
Broken hearts.

I should have seen how
You glanced at him when we all hung out,
How you always asked me if
My buddy was gonna tag along with us,
How you looked through my phone
To get his number.

I should have seen it coming.

But yeah,
I did see it.
All too late.

So baby, I don't know
If you'll ever see this poem,
But if you do, I just want to let you know,
That even though you did hurt me to my core,
Shook the very foundations of how
I perceive love,
You did teach me something.

You taught me how to
Pick up the pieces of my canvas and to
Make art out of my sadness.

So thank you, really.

A tale of betrayal gently laid. I liked the fact that you didnt let it turn you to resentment but instead chalked up a lesson and instead channelled emotion into poetry. I loved in particular the last verse. "You taught me how to puck up the pieces of my canvas and make art out of my sadness. Excellent. Best wishes Milly x
