People comment on me being reserved
but what they don't realise is that:

I listen carefully without judgement and
I hear things they don't tell me aswell

I see (even if blurred or double) what goes on behind closed doors
as I perfected hiding what went on behind my very own

I smell rats even before they have crossed my path
as I was with one long enough (too long in fact)

I can taste lies before they even come out of your mouth
as I am used to being lied to and lying about things being 'fine'

I feel the loneliness that you feel even when you pretend you're not lonely
as I've felt it for near on half my life now

I have fantastic senses you know.

Our senses learn so much from experiences, and how we pick up on people with their 'words' and 'behaviours' they stick with us, but unfortunately we continue to learn, and we miss things with people. I really like the way you show your experiences here

You've walked the mile in the shoes and you can see the signs easily Em, that's what gives you great empathy. We can take something from even the harshest of lessons

Em this is another powerful piece...almost sounds like to me you needed to develop these senses just to survive. I hope that you are ok now...
