Goodbye

by Courtney Hough   Jan 3, 2018

She wasn’t just a cat,
She saved my life you see.
Somehow she always knew,
When depression found me.

She is going to die today,
And with her a piece of; I.
And while I write my ode to you,
All I can do is cry.

She sat on my lap one night,
While I held the blade.
She looked at me with her eyes,
Telling me to stay.

She held my secrets,
Never told a soul.
But today; January second,
Is just too cold.

Cancer has found her,
Just like depression found me.
And she has no strength,
To stay here and be.

So to you my little Nala,
I won’t let this cancer grow.
I’ll do the kindest thing I know how,
And let you go.

Because you’re not just a cat,
You are my angel still.
And God can have you back,
Sleep now, soft and still.

What a heart wrenching poem. Animals live such innocent yet supportive lives and yet are taken far too soon. Best wishes Milly x
