Winter

by DarkNDangerous   Jan 26, 2018

Winter came, and a jacket held me like you once did.
Gripped me with the promises you had given.
Wrapped me in the warmth of your hollow love.

Winter came, and you turned on the furnace.
With the coal you obtained from your infidelity.
Embers burned my skin with relentless agony.

Winter came, and subzero temperatures threatened.
They froze over my tears where my heart used to be.
No hope to shovel away your indiscretions.

Winter came, and icicles formed.
Stabbed my back where your loyalties used to lie.
Devotions that melted away like snow.

Winter came, and the holiday feast was barren.
The gingerbread house was crushed into pieces.
Where the promise of family once was bliss.

I'm sorry I haven't commented before on this wonderful poem when I last read it but I don't always have the energy to write a comment at time of reading. I loved the winter theme and how you wove winter as though with the burning emotions that rise from infidelity and betrayal. Lovely contrasting piece. Best wishes Milly x
