Where I'm From

by Robert Long   Jan 31, 2018

I am from the faucet
From the Aquafina and Dasani
I’m from the mansion on the hill
So dreadful and weary
(Sounded so old)

I’m from the daisy in the pot
The daisy by the sage
Wilting from old age

I’m from the molecular combining
And fusion of us all
From the hydrogen and oxygen
And the atoms on the wall

I’m from the reunion of the atoms family
And the energy that’s flowing in the trees

From the same element of life
And from my grandmas daughter
I’m from the church
In the form of holy water

I’m from the ocean
Lettuce and cucumber
From Lake Lehman where my brother jumped
Off the pier and into the water

And the worry when he almost drowned
Was more than I could take
Then I remembered
As molecules we’d reunite
