The Road

by Mortal Utopia   Feb 2, 2018

We saw the long, broad strokes of sunlight
woven into melodies:
painting the warmth of our smiles again,
sculpting a long-forgotten road in our minds
with its funny hills and turns.

Yet it was a road
I once never wanted to recall:
for all the people I wronged and injured,
for our tears that glistened like sharp needles –
I ended up running away at the sight of Pain,

leaving Joy behind.
