Roses

by Matt Carroll   Feb 5, 2018

A vase of roses sits upon my table
I just can't bear to touch or toss
Such a cold and cruel reminder
Of a not-so-distant, painful loss

A pile of your things sit idle in my hall
That reduces me to sobbing tears
I still can't believe you'd go like that
Bringing to life my deepest fears

A bed I can't sleep in sits empty in my room
Remains untouched since last we laid there
Were the feelings you shared all hollow
How am I supposed to believe you care

A crippling silence haunts these rooms
In place of love and laughter dearly missed
I wish I'd known that last I held you
Could be the last time we'd have kissed

A vase of roses sits upon my table
I just can't bear to break or throw away
My love for you and yours remains
As does my hope you'll come home to stay

Lost love can throw us in darkness but as long as there is hope we shouldn't fear.

    Very beautifully written. Matt

i'm trembling so much since the 1st quatrain and each and every word following really stung. Quite a beautiful yet dangerous writing to be around. I appreciated it.
