Playing with Fire (Sonnet)

by Tony   Feb 7, 2018

I was taught to never play with matches
As every young boy was told not to do
I was curious to see what catches
So I played with the stove and lighters too
I'd set fire to toys and watch them burn
Serpentine flames reflected in green eyes
I've so many burns from lessons I've learned
Taught by the tongues of flames that tell no lies
My fingers dance across the lapping flames
A dance we two have done some countless times
Within that dance, we play our many games
Of broken rules and beautifully blurred lines
You know my secrets and hidden desires
I just want to set the world on fire
