Every Other Weekend

by Tony   Mar 13, 2018

I remember vividly
The day that you were born
And as I held you in my arms
Your Daddy, he felt torn

Everything, all I knew
Was shaken to its core
Nothing else in all the world
Could matter like before

It was like gravity
And I was drawn to you
And then when your sister came
Daddy was split in two

I helped you grow as best I could
Though sometimes from afar
But even while a world apart
You two are my stars

I wish things were different
That Daddy never had to go
But sometimes wishes don't come true
Something I'd hoped you'd never know

Come close so I can hold you
In this moment we will stay
Until the last second ticks by
And Daddy has to walk away
