to my future wife

by pmmurphy   May 18, 2018

i'm going
to be productive today

however,
i've gone missing
and my lies
left stains
on the table.

with a heart like an accordion
its easy to fall.
i've been stretched too many times
playing for someone else's world.
just know, that tuning me is hard
and it doesn't always come out right.

its all in the music, that,
i hope you learn to love me.

i hope my
distant sounds
keep you coming forward
because i'm only as far away
as you allow these veins to stretch
and arteries to punish themselves.

take me inside
and let me stop playing songs
of a heartache.
where our family will relish
the retirement
of lonely sad man hymns.

where the seeds of tomorrow
only blossom into
world ridden flowers
when you're orchestrating
my keys.

for this,
i hope you'll come by
this darkened corridor
and light a match.
even if just a flicker,
so i too, can
at least see
myself play
a new lullaby.

each note plays
a particular sound
as its in this music
i hope you learn to love me.

i hope my
distant lullaby
keeps you coming forward
because i'm only as distant
as you allow these veins to stretch
and arteries to punish themselves.

take me inside
and let me stop playing these tunes
of a heartache.
where our family can relish
my retirement of a lonely
sad man's blues.
