Upon Hope

by Mortal Utopia   May 26, 2018

Your smile
shone like reflections that opened
and closed upon
the lake we once saw so long ago -
twinkling, unwrinkling
with the star-like innocence of eyes (reopened).

I wonder
if it was Hope that you saw within and through
the blinding darkness that enclosed us; I wonder
if you saw the sparks of starlight
with your eyes opening and closing,
disclosing our fake slumber.

I wonder if we can still
smile on, till dreams take us
to the world of the dreaming.

This is beautifully penned! I love this a lot! The feel of this poem is light and everything that I feel while reading a book or something that has a reference to a lake. Am not a fan of the capitalized H in 'Hope', but I do understand where that is coming from. I love how powerful your descriptive methods are. The words are beautifully laid-out. The sense of amusement for that thing called hope is something we must have at dark times, at bright times. I can feel the worry and the date of being helpful in this piece. Nominated, added to favorites!
